Hello Gals!

As a mother of three kids and as a lover of wellness, you must know how seriously I take the subject of obesity in children. This is one of the reasons why I love trying new, fun, and healthy recipes! So, my children can understand that one can eat healthy and stay active while making both fun!! And, of course, I blog and share on Instagram the things that I do for my family in hopes that everyone or at least someone can join the wellness life.

First things first, why is obesity awareness important? Well, because obese children are more likely to have obesity when they become adults, leading to a life of physical and mental health problems, including a higher risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and many types of cancer.

Obesity is a real and serious issue, especially in the United States. The data is troubling. It is, in fact, the most obese country in the world. About 13.7 million of children and adolescents have suffered from obesity!! Obesity in children is different from that of adults because we can help our kids learn early. We can help them realize the dangers of it from the beginning of their lives. We can help them make their own decisions that will ultimately lead them to have a good, healthy life.

I feel, teaching our kids about healthy eating and healthy foods its so important because parents can help prevent them from growing into these problems as adults. We need to guide them to the safest and healthiest life we can!! How do we do that? Our children are constantly imitating everything we do!! From the way we eat to the way we talk and the way we spend our time daily. Unconsciously or consciously, they imitate their parents and everything they surround themselves with. This is why it’s vital for us parents to set a good example, so they can become that example, or even become better than that!

I know it cant be difficult specially when we have “picky eaters” but trust me they will want to imitate what mom or dad are doing and how they take care of themselves.  I learned early on that I will not be arguing with my kids about what we eat or do not eat at home and for me the best solution was not having those not so healthy options at home.  Out of sight out of mind, and people would ask, do they eat sugary treats? Yes! do they eat Ice cream? Yes! how about soda? of course they do, we all do but I simply leave this for the weekend, parties, or even when we go to a restaurant.  Start by making small changes around the house and little by little the kids will start eating better.  I know at the beginning they wont like it but it worth it.

Our duty is not only to be the example of our children by letting them imitate us and hope they turn out okay. And it is not only serving them the right foods and putting them in the right physical and mental activities either. Our duty as parents is making our children want to eat the right foods and want to spend their time doing activities that will help them in the long term. Eventually, after imitation and “obligation,” meaning when we make them do certain activities for their health even when they don’t see the appeal, they will start wanting to do similar things as they grow.

The truth is, I don’t only exercise for me. I don’t only eat right for me. Yes, one of the reasons why I do it is for me, but I also do it for them because deep down I know that they will end up doing whatever I taught them to do. And it’s funny. We teach the most to our children when we are not aware.

I hope this motivated you enough to make a change or to keep going in the wellness journey!!

I hope you enjoy this Blog as I am very passionate about these type of topics.
